Seafloor Drilling in the Bering Sea


A two-month expedition recovered about six kilometers of seafloor cores that span several million years of geologic history and record the onset of the Pleistocene Ice Ages.

Christoph Thomas

Carbon Uptake by Forests

 

Researchers are interested in what drives forest photosynthesis, respiration and net carbon sequenstration on seasonal and interannual scales. Christoph Thomas has found that "thinking like a tree" and defining a novel "hydro-ecological" year of four season, better predicts carbon uptake in drought-stressed forests.
